MY STORY AND MISSION
Hello, my name's bboy Oats&Rice, I'm 24 y/o and I'm a male who's fully-recovered from Anorexia, after almost a lifetime of struggling with disordered eating, it at one point almost cost me my entire life. I give a huge thanks to both the website I currently use to help others navigate their recovery (which is linked on the right at the top, you can follow the help and advice I give @ u/Cromsearchthrowaway), as well as an online recovery program called Equip, and even my University UC Davis! Anyways, I know not everyone is fortunate to have access to resources such as a recovery facility/ED/HAES care team, so I made this page to offer my assistance to help those acquire the same quality help that I used to save my own life in recovery, for free!
If you are currently recovering from an eating disorder and need help, guidance, reassurance, and or advice on your journey. Reach out to me via the contact information on the right of the page or check out my reddit page to see the help I've given people already. Disclaimer, I'm not a doctor, or dietitian, I'm just someone who's fully recovered from an ED that plagued most of my life, and I know a thing or two about how to successfully navigate recovery in order to live a fulfilling life ED free!
Anyways, as for why I made this organization called, "Breakfast Crew", at my sickest like most, I could no longer engage with any of my joys of life. Whether that be reading, working on creative endeavors, or just being there for my friends and family, but the hobby that had kickstarted my own recovery journey the most that I especially couldn't engage with during recovery, or at my sickest, was dance. One of the reasons I wanted to get better was so I could live a long life doing what I love, which is dancing (more specifically bboying/breaking). During my time of being involved with the dance scene, and at Equip, it's unbelievable and saddening how prevalent EDs are within the realm of dance.
So to advocate, support, validate, spread awareness, and give hope to dancers and to everyone/anyone who's struggling (especially underrepresented group) who are either struggling with EDs and putting themselves through recovery, I started a non-profit organization called, "Breakfast Crew". And hopefully through my efforts by attending events and contributing to the scene with this organization (via helping out anyone who wants help via contacting me or on r/fuckeatingdisorders, social media, on-site events, merch, putting myself and the group out there, etc.), I can further educate people on ED's, advocate for intervention and appropriate treatment. As well as spreading the message to those who engage with joyful movement that in order to live a fulfilling life doing what we love, we have to consistently nourish, heal, and rest our bodies and that focusing on recovery and taking time away from your activity is what you have to do if you want to go back to it. I hope whomever is reading this has a wonderful day! GANBARE ;]
